New Year’s Resolution : New or Renew?

New year is a time where we revisit and evaluate our list whether we have accomplished our new year’s resolution or not. Its either we recommit to follow our unmet goals or revise those which have been effective and adopt that strategy to create new ones.

Our list would vary from creating an exercise program to stay fit or a regimen to lose some weight, learn how to save money after spending a glamorous shopping on a holiday, changing our bad habit and developing a good one such as going to work earlier everyday as possible, etc. and etc. But among those list, have we considered making a more meaningful resolution ? I’m not saying those I’ve mentioned above aren’t.

As humans, we were created to be social beings- relational people. And God created us to have a relationship with him.

Genesis 1:27
“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female he created them.”

Because we were created in his image, we have this connection in God that we could respond to and have fellowship with Him. With his desire to have an intimate relationship with us, He gave up his son ,Jesus ,to die for our sins so he could bridge the gap and allow us to reconnect with his Father.

God has placed so much value in relationships that he choose us to be his friends and no longer servants nor slaves. (John 15:15 )

So do you have the same heart just like him? Will you also desire developing an intimate relationship with Him and let it grow?

If we say we love God, we will obey his commandments. (John 14:15)

In Nehemiah chapter 10, we can see that the Israelites renewed their commitment to God by making an agreement to obey Him and even sealed it with their names on it. If we read the previous chapters, they have failed to obey God. They have been stubborn and forgetful about what God has done to them, how God helped them escaped from the hands of the cruel and hostile Egyptians. But amidst their hardheaded attitudes, through their righteous leaders, the covenant has been restored, fellowship with God has been restored again.

Relationships. Does it matter to you?

If we’ll look back at our life, what has been our priority? Family? Career? Promotion? Health? Status? Popularity?

Will you commit to love God more? to obey him more? to love yourself and others?

So what do you promise to yourself this year ?

Trust God as you pray that these would not just be wishes and another list for “My New Year’s Resolution” but he’ll enable you to accomplish these aspirations.
